Pilates Classes in Lexington, KY | Beginner Reformer Pilates & Memberships

Looking for Pilates Classes in Lexington, KY? Here’s Where to Start

If you’ve been thinking about trying Pilates but aren’t quite sure where to begin, you’re certainly not alone. One of the most common things we hear from women reaching out to Pilates Barre Lex is that they’ve wanted to try Reformer Pilates for months, sometimes even years, but weren’t sure what to expect or which class would be appropriate for them.

Maybe you’ve seen Pilates all over social media and are curious about what makes it so popular. Maybe you’re looking for a new fitness routine that you can actually look forward to, or perhaps you’ve tried other workouts and haven’t found something that feels like the right fit. Whatever brings you here, I want you to know that you don’t need to have any previous Pilates experience to get started.

At Pilates Barre Lex, we’ve created a women-only Pilates studio in Lexington, Kentucky, where beginners and experienced clients alike can feel comfortable, supported, and genuinely excited to come to class. We’re located on Richmond Road, and our group classes are intentionally limited to seven clients total. That means you won’t be walking into an overcrowded room trying to figure everything out on your own. Our instructors are there to teach you, answer your questions, and help you become comfortable with the equipment and movements.

What Is Reformer Pilates, and Is It Good for Beginners?

If you’ve never taken a Reformer Pilates class before, the equipment can look a little intimidating. There are springs, straps, a moving carriage, and quite a few things that probably don’t resemble the equipment you’re used to seeing in a traditional gym. But I promise, you don’t need to understand any of that before your first appointment.

The Pilates Reformer is a specialized piece of equipment that uses spring resistance to support and challenge movement. Depending on the exercise, it can help develop strength, coordination, mobility, balance, and body awareness. One of the things I love most about the Reformer is how adaptable it can be. Exercises can be adjusted based on a client’s experience, abilities, and individual goals.

For someone who is brand new to Pilates, we begin with the foundations. You’ll learn how the equipment works, how to position your body, and how to perform movements with greater control and awareness. You don’t need to be flexible, have a strong core, or already be in shape. Those are things we can work toward together.

I think people sometimes assume they need to prepare themselves for Pilates before attending their first class. In reality, learning is the entire point of coming to class. You aren’t expected to know what you’re doing when you arrive, and you certainly don’t need to keep up with someone who has been practicing for years.

How Much Does It Cost to Try Pilates in Lexington, KY?

One of the questions we receive most often is about pricing, and I completely understand wanting to know what your options are before committing to something new.

At Pilates Barre Lex, we offer several introductory packages designed specifically for new clients. These allow you to experience our studio, meet our instructors, and decide which type of Pilates instruction feels like the best fit before choosing a regular membership.

Our Introductory Offers for New Clients

3 Group Pilates Classes for $75

This is a wonderful option for someone who wants to experience our small-group Reformer classes and get a feel for the studio. You’ll have the opportunity to try Pilates, become familiar with the equipment, and see how different instructors approach their classes.

1 Private Pilates Session + 2 Group Classes for $89

This is one of my favorite ways for someone to begin, especially if they’ve never tried Pilates before. Your private session gives you an opportunity to become familiar with the equipment, learn foundational movements, and ask questions before transitioning into group classes.

2 Private Pilates Sessions for $129

If you prefer a more individualized introduction, have specific movement goals, or simply feel more comfortable learning one-on-one, this is a wonderful starting point. Private sessions allow your instructor to focus entirely on you and tailor the experience to your individual needs.

I encourage new clients to think about what would make them feel the most comfortable rather than simply choosing the package with the most classes. Some women love jumping into a group environment, while others appreciate having that initial one-on-one experience. There’s no wrong way to begin.

What Makes Pilates Barre Lex Different From Other Pilates Studios in Lexington?

With more Pilates studios opening throughout Lexington, I think it’s important for clients to understand that not every studio offers the same experience.

When I opened Pilates Barre Lex, my goal wasn’t to create the largest studio or fit as many people as possible into a class. I wanted to create a space where women could receive high-quality instruction, feel genuinely welcomed, and develop a Pilates practice that made sense for their individual bodies. That’s still incredibly important to me today.

Our group classes are limited to seven clients total, which allows our instructors to provide individualized feedback and get to know the people they’re teaching. We learn about our clients’ goals, previous injuries, movement limitations, and the things they’re working toward. We also understand that not everyone will perform an exercise in exactly the same way, and that’s okay.

Education is another significant part of who we are. Pilates Barre Lex is a licensed EYT Pilates Teacher Training studio, and as a nationally certified Pilates teacher and EYT Master Trainer, I place a tremendous amount of value on instructor education and continuing professional development.

I want our instructors to understand why they’re teaching an exercise, how to recognize when someone needs a modification, and how to help clients progress appropriately. That knowledge matters whether someone is attending their very first Pilates class or has been practicing for years.

We’re also proud to be a locally owned, women-only Pilates studio and a Best of Lexington winner in 2024, 2025, and 2026. Those recognitions mean so much to us because they reflect the community of women who continue to support our studio.

Which Pilates Class Should I Take First?

If you’re new to Pilates, I generally recommend beginning with our Principles class or considering an introductory private session.

Our Principles class focuses on foundational Pilates concepts and is designed to help newer clients become familiar with the Reformer, movement terminology, and proper technique. It’s a great place to begin building confidence before exploring additional class formats.

As you become more comfortable, you can begin incorporating other classes into your routine. We offer a variety of Pilates experiences, including Group Reformer, Restore, Align & Elevate, Classical Pilates, and more advanced options for clients who are ready for an additional challenge.

One of the things I love about having different class formats is that your Pilates practice doesn’t have to look the same forever. Your goals may change, your schedule may change, and your body may need something different from one season of life to the next. We want you to have options that allow you to continue enjoying Pilates as your practice develops.

And if you’re ever unsure which class is appropriate, please ask us. We’d much rather help you find the right starting point than have you feel overwhelmed trying to figure it out on your own.

How Often Should You Do Pilates to See Results?

This is another question we hear all the time, and the answer depends on your goals, experience, and overall activity level.

For someone who is brand new to Pilates, beginning with one or two classes per week can be a manageable way to learn the foundations and become comfortable with the movements. As your confidence and experience grow, you may decide to attend more frequently.

Some of our clients enjoy Pilates twice a week, while others love coming three or four times a week. We also have women who incorporate Pilates alongside walking, strength training, or other forms of exercise.

I don’t believe there’s one perfect schedule for everyone. What matters most is finding a routine that works for your life and allows you to practice consistently.

And I think that’s one of the reasons so many women fall in love with Pilates. It’s something you can continue learning and progressing in over time. There are always new connections to make, exercises to explore, and opportunities to improve your movement.

Is a Pilates Membership Worth It?

If you’ve completed your introductory offer and find yourself looking forward to your next class, a Pilates membership may be the next step.

One of the biggest benefits of having a membership is that it helps make Pilates a consistent part of your routine. Instead of deciding each week whether you’re going to book a class, you have a plan that encourages you to prioritize movement. At Pilates Barre Lex, we offer several membership options because we understand that everyone has different schedules, goals, and budgets.

Our membership options include plans for women who want to attend a few times each month, those who enjoy coming two or three times per week, and clients who prefer more frequent access to classes.

Our eight-class monthly membership is a popular option for someone who wants to practice approximately twice per week. Our twelve-class membership provides additional flexibility for clients who enjoy attending more frequently, while our unlimited membership is designed for women who want Pilates to be a regular part of their weekly routine.

We also offer our Flow membership, which can be a great option for clients who want fewer classes each month and a little more flexibility.

The right membership isn’t necessarily the one with the most classes. It’s the one that fits your lifestyle and allows you to consistently enjoy your practice.

If you’re unsure which option makes the most sense, our team is always happy to help you compare memberships and find something that works for your schedule.

What Should You Expect at Your First Pilates Class?

I know walking into a new studio can feel intimidating, especially when you’re trying something you’ve never done before. That’s why we work hard to make the experience as comfortable and straightforward as possible.

Before your first class, you’ll complete our required intake information so we can learn more about you and any relevant movement considerations. We ask that you wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and bring grippy socks, which are required for classes.

When you arrive, your instructor will help you become familiar with the equipment and answer any questions you may have. You don’t need to know the exercise names, understand spring resistance, or have any previous Pilates experience.

And please don’t feel embarrassed if you need to ask a question or request a modification. That’s part of learning, and it’s exactly what we’re here for.

Something I always want women to understand is that Pilates isn’t about competing with the person next to you. Everyone comes into the studio with different experiences, abilities, and goals. Your practice is yours, and we want you to feel comfortable developing it at your own pace.
