COURSE Contents
-
The Mat & Reformer curriculum is rooted in classical Pilates foundations while thoughtfully integrating contemporary understanding of movement, anatomy, and modern bodies. Trainees will develop a deep understanding of Pilates principles, movement mechanics, exercise progressions, modifications, and intentional programming across both mat and reformer work.
This portion of the training focuses heavily on teaching quality, precision, control, breathwork, and the ability to confidently guide clients through safe, effective, and purposeful movement experiences.
Throughout the curriculum, trainees will learn:
• Beginner, intermediate, and advanced Mat repertoire
• Beginner, intermediate, and advanced Reformer repertoire
• Exercise goals, setup, transitions, and proper execution
• Pilates principles and movement foundations
• Cueing, tactile feedback, and client communication
• Modifications, progressions, and contraindications
• Posture, alignment, breathwork, and body mechanics
• Sequencing and intentional class programming
• Teaching presence, flow, and professional development
• How to adapt Pilates for different bodies, needs, and experience levelsOur goal is not simply to help you memorize exercises, but to help you truly understand the method, embody the work, and confidently teach with clarity, intention, and professionalism.
-
Anatomy is thoughtfully woven throughout the entirety of the training rather than taught as a standalone memorization course. We believe understanding the body in motion is one of the most important parts of becoming a confident, safe, and effective Pilates teacher.
Throughout the program, trainees will continually connect anatomy to movement, exercise application, posture, alignment, breathwork, muscle engagement, and real client scenarios within both Mat and Reformer work.
Trainees will also receive a weekly “Muscle of the Week” focus to help simplify anatomy in a way that feels approachable, practical, and directly applicable to teaching. These focused studies are designed to help deepen your understanding of movement patterns, muscular function, and how the body works together as an integrated system.
Our goal is to help anatomy feel useful and empowering within your teaching rather than overwhelming or overly clinical.
-
Our Class Planning & Programming Workshop is designed to help set trainees up for real-world teaching success with confidence, structure, and clarity. One of the biggest challenges new instructors face is learning how to effectively build classes that feel intentional, balanced, safe, and adaptable and this workshop is designed to bridge that gap.
Trainees will receive programming templates, sequencing guidance, class structure recommendations, and practical teaching frameworks to help simplify the planning process while still allowing room for creativity and individual teaching style to develop naturally over time.
This workshop also focuses heavily on learning how to teach to the bodies in front of you rather than teaching from memorization alone. Trainees will learn how to thoughtfully adjust exercises based on experience level, mobility, injuries, limitations, energy levels, pregnancy considerations, and overall client needs within a group setting.
Topics include:
• Intentional class sequencing and flow
• Beginner through advanced programming strategies
• Progressions, regressions, and modifications
• Building balanced and effective classes
• Teaching mixed-level group classes confidently
• Creating safe yet appropriately challenging movement experiences
• Understanding when and why to modify exercises
• Developing stronger observation and teaching skills
• How to maintain the integrity of the Pilates method while adapting for modern bodiesOur goal is to help trainees leave feeling prepared, supported, and equipped with the tools to confidently create thoughtful, effective classes that serve a wide variety of clients and bodies.
-
Our Pre & Postnatal, Postpartum, Contraindications & Special Populations workshop is designed to help trainees feel more confident, knowledgeable, and prepared working with a wide variety of bodies and needs they will inevitably encounter throughout their teaching journey.
Within the Pilates industry, you will work with clients navigating everything from pregnancy and postpartum recovery to injuries, surgeries, chronic conditions, autoimmune disorders, hypermobility, joint replacements, and more. At PBL, we believe teachers should feel supported and educated in how to approach these clients safely, thoughtfully, and confidently rather than fearful or uncertain.
Throughout this portion of the training, we discuss considerations, modifications, movement strategies, and contraindications related to populations and conditions such as:
• Pre & postnatal and postpartum clients
• Diastasis recti and pelvic floor considerations
• Hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS)
• Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
• Arthritis and joint limitations
• Hip replacements and joint surgeries
• Low back pain and spinal considerations
• Injuries, limitations, and movement restrictions
• Aging populations and mobility concerns
• And many more real-world client scenarios seen within the Pilates industryHannah has extensive hands-on experience working with each of the populations and conditions discussed throughout the training and is passionate about helping future instructors feel more prepared in navigating them with confidence, precision, professionalism, and care.
Our goal is to help trainees learn how to meet clients where they are, make thoughtful movement decisions, and create safe, supportive, and effective Pilates experiences for every body that walks through the door.
-
Our Size Inclusive Training focuses on helping trainees learn how to create a Pilates environment where every client feels supported, respected, safe, and capable regardless of body size, experience level, mobility, or fitness background.
At PBL, we believe Pilates is for every body. Learning how to teach inclusively is an essential part of becoming a knowledgeable and compassionate teacher. Throughout the training, we discuss how to move beyond outdated fitness narratives and instead focus on creating movement experiences centered around function, confidence, accessibility, strength, and longevity.
Trainees will learn how to thoughtfully adapt exercises, equipment setup, cueing, and programming to better support a wide variety of bodies and comfort levels within both private and group settings.
Topics include:
• Creating a welcoming and supportive client experience
• Equipment setup considerations and accessibility modifications
• Exercise modifications and movement options
• Teaching with sensitivity, professionalism, and respect
• Avoiding harmful fitness language and body-focused cueing
• Supporting client confidence within the studio environment
• Understanding mobility limitations and movement variability
• Learning how to teach the body in front of you rather than teaching from assumptionsOur goal is to help future teachers feel confident working with a diverse range of clients while creating a studio experience rooted in kindness, inclusivity, professionalism, and genuine support for every body that walks through the door.
-
Observation and self-practice are foundational components of the training process and an essential part of developing into a confident, knowledgeable, and well-rounded Pilates teacher.
Throughout the program, trainees will spend dedicated time both observing classes and experiecned teachers within the studio environment as well as continuing and deepening their own personal Pilates practice. We believe some of the best learning happens not only through teaching, but through watching, experiencing, feeling, and understanding the method within your own body first.
Observation hours allow trainees to witness a variety of teaching styles, client needs, cueing approaches, modifications, class flow, and real-world studio dynamics across different class types and experience levels. This helps bridge the gap between education and practical application while developing stronger observation and teaching skills.
Self-practice is equally important. You cannot effectively teach what you are disconnected from within your own body. Continuing your personal Pilates practice helps deepen your understanding of exercises, transitions, programming, breathwork, and movement mechanics while also allowing you to teach from embodied experience rather than memorization alone.
Throughout this process, trainees are encouraged to stay curious, continue learning, ask questions, and remain connected to the work both as a student and future instructor.
Our EYT Pilates Teacher Training Program is a 300-hour certification program focusing on Mat and Reformer, with the opportunity to expand into Comprehensive training. Designed to be completed over approximately 20 weeks, this program is structured, supportive, and immersive. This program blends:
COURSE OVERVIEW
-
Our in-person seminar weekends at Pilates Barre Lex are where the foundation of the training truly comes to life. These immersive weekends are designed to provide hands-on learning, movement exploration, teaching practice, and deeper understanding of the Pilates method within a supportive studio environment.
Trainees will work through Mat and Reformer repertoire, movement mechanics, anatomy application, cueing, class flow, modifications, and teaching concepts while receiving real-time guidance and feedback. These weekends are intentionally interactive, collaborative, and designed to help trainees build confidence both as students and future teachers.
At PBL, we believe learning Pilates requires more than simply memorizing exercises. It requires understanding movement, embodying the method, and developing the ability to teach thoughtfully, safely, and intentionally.
-
Alongside in-person training, trainees receive access to online curriculum and educational resources designed to support continued study throughout the Pilates teacher training program.
This portion of the training allows trainees to review material, study anatomy, revisit exercises, deepen movement understanding, and continue learning outside of seminar weekends. The blended learning format creates a more supportive and manageable educational experience while helping trainees retain and apply information more effectively over time.
The EYT program is intentionally designed to support different learning styles while creating structure, accountability, and confidence throughout the training journey.
-
One of the most valuable parts of the program is the in-studio apprenticeship experience within the Pilates Barre Lex environment. Rather than learning in isolation, trainees are immersed within a real boutique studio setting where they can observe, assist, practice teach, and grow within the day-to-day operations of the industry.
This hands-on apprenticeship allows trainees to gain real-world teaching experience while learning studio professionalism, client interaction, class flow, and the nuances that come with working with a variety of bodies, personalities, and needs.
We believe confidence is built through experience, mentorship, repetition, and continued support and our apprenticeship model is designed to help bridge the gap between certification and truly feeling prepared to teach.
-
Practice teaching is an essential part of becoming a confident and effective Pilates instructor. Throughout the training, trainees will have ongoing opportunities to practice teach within a supportive environment while receiving constructive feedback, mentorship, and guidance along the way.
The EYT program emphasizes growth over perfection. Trainees are encouraged to develop their voice, refine their cueing, improve observation skills, strengthen class flow, and learn how to adapt to different clients and situations with professionalism and confidence.
Feedback is designed to be supportive, honest, and educational helping trainees continue growing while building confidence in their teaching abilities.
-
Throughout the program, trainees will participate in additional workshops designed to further support their education and prepare them for real-world teaching within the Pilates industry.
Workshops may include topics such as anatomy application, class planning and programming, professional development, cueing, special populations, pre and postnatal considerations, contraindications, props, and teaching methodology.
These workshops are designed to provide practical tools, deeper understanding, and additional support beyond repertoire memorization helping trainees become more knowledgeable, adaptable, and well-rounded teachers.
-
At PBL, mentorship is at the heart of the training experience. We intentionally keep our EYT Teacher Training cohorts small so trainees receive individualized attention, guidance, feedback, and support throughout their journey.
This program is designed to feel collaborative, supportive, and hands-on rather than overwhelming or impersonal. Trainees are encouraged to ask questions, continue learning, and grow within an environment rooted in professionalism, kindness, and genuine support.
As the lead trainer, Hannah remains actively involved throughout the training process to help guide trainees not only through the educational components of the program, but also through the confidence-building and real-world aspects of becoming a Pilates teacher.
-
One of the unique aspects of the EYT Teacher Training at Pilates Barre Lex is that our goal is not simply to certify trainees, but to develop Certified Pilates Teachers who feel genuinely confident, knowledgeable, and fully prepared for real-world teaching opportunities within the Pilates industry. Throughout the program, trainees are immersed within an active boutique studio environment where we are able to closely mentor, support, and watch their growth as both students and future teachers.
As trainees progress through the program, demonstrate professionalism, teaching readiness, work ethic, and alignment with the studio culture, there may be opportunities for continued apprenticeship, teaching opportunities, and potential employment within the Pilates Barre Lex team as we see fit.
While employment is never guaranteed, our intention is always to cultivate and mentor teachers who embody the values, professionalism, care, and teaching quality we believe are essential within the Pilates industry. Once trainees successfully complete their apprenticeship hours, required coursework, observation, self-practice, and practice teaching requirements, they will complete a final testing and assessment process in order to receive their certification.
The EYT certification is nationally and internationally recognized whether trainees choose to complete the Mat & Reformer pathway or continue forward into Comprehensive Pilates training.
Our mission is to develop teachers who not only understand the Pilates method, but who also feel genuinely confident, prepared, professional, and capable walking into the studio and safely leading clients with clarity, precision, and purpose.
Empowering women to move, lead, and Teach With intention.
Trainees are guided through a structured learning experience that builds both technical knowledge and teaching presence. With a focus on quality mentorship and hands-on practice, the program prepares you to step into the studio with clarity, confidence, and a deep respect for the Pilates method.

There is a lot of information to absorb, and we believe strong teaching comes from truly understanding and applying each layer of the work before moving on.
By separating the Mat & Reformer training from the CCB (Cadillac, Chair, Barrels) course, students are able to build a solid foundation first, gain real teaching experience, and then expand their knowledge with greater depth and complexity. This step-by-step approach allows for better retention, stronger confidence, and more effective long-term teaching skills.

Founded by Jessica Spillane in 2008, the EYT (Evolve Your Teaching) Pilates Teacher Training Program has been a respected leader in Pilates education for 18 years. Pilates Barre Lex is a licensed teacher training studio for the EYT curriculum in Lexington, Kentucky, offering comprehensive, high-level Pilates education and certification. Known for its excellence in teacher development, the program provides in-depth training designed to prepare confident, knowledgeable, and skilled Certified Pilates teachers.
-
This program is rooted in:
A classical Pilates foundation
Hands-on, in-studio mentorship
A deeply supportive and intentional learning environment
With many large “big box” programs, the focus is often on equipment manufacturing first and education second. This can lead to limited mentorship, additional costs for required workshops, and unexpected fees for studio access or supplemental training outside of tuition. In some cases, trainees are also left to independently source practice hours and teaching opportunities.
On the other end, smaller “mom and pop” trainings can be very brief, sometimes only a weekend, and may not offer the depth of curriculum, structured progression, or ongoing resources needed to fully prepare for teaching. Certification is also often limited in recognition outside of that specific studio.
EYT, founded by Jessica Spillane, was created to bridge that gap and set a higher standard in Pilates education. It offers a comprehensive, fully supported training experience with a structured curriculum, in-depth anatomy and repertoire study, hands-on mentorship, and real in-studio teaching practice. Designed to be both rigorous and supportive, EYT prepares graduates with the confidence, knowledge, and professionalism expected at a high level across the Pilates industry.
You are not learning in isolation. You are learning inside a real, boutique Pilates studio in Lexington, KY, with real clients, real feedback, and real growth.
